Our Chesapeake Bay Chapter has an ongoing commitment to engage children of all ages in maritime history, skills and activities. Here are some of our annual programs and events:
- Boats for Kids
Held during our Annual Boat Festival in St. Michaels, MD and sponsored by Hagerty Insurance and Antique Boat America, this activity is targeted to kids aged 2-12. The children assemble small boats (which they can take home at the end of the day) and learn to sail them in a special pool.
- Kit Boat Building
Sponsored by Biscontini Boat Works, this event gives teens the opportunity to build one of the James Craft Kit boats of the classic Chris-Craft design. These programs are typically scheduled during our major Chapter events like the Antique & Classic Boat Festival (always held on Father’s Day week-end) and Christmas in St. Michaels (mid-December).
- Sea Scouts (Ship #759—Baltimore, MD)
Under the capable direction of Captain James, this maritime division of the Boy Scouts of America teaches young adults (male & female, ages 14-20) how to restore, maintain and skipper boats donated to their organization. This local chapter is also a major contributor to our Annual Boat Festival volunteer staff.
- Donations
Each year our Chapter donates funds to:
- Area organizations committed to education in maritime skills and history
- The ACBS International Youth Development Program
